Infinity today
I touched infinity today,
Staring at me through centuries.
It was the sun, the marble, the sky,
And all the endless opportunities.
A pure paradox of time and space.
This lake feels like an ocean.
The Roman ruins seem so out of place
And yet, are perfect.
I touch the cold and weathered column.
It’s almost alien against my skin.
I will not blame the distant stars;
I choose to see the warmth within.
How many people have, before me,
Stood here, contemplating the cold stone?
Those pilgrims, conquerors, or tourists.
Their lives and dreams long dead and gone.
The fleeting moments of a fragile life.
So insignificant, and yet, made great
Through the lenses of a never-ending drive
To live, to matter, never to forget.
I stood there, basking in the autumn sun,
With eyes that found a different way to be,
Reducing all the troubles to some gentle fun
And this moment to the point of breaking free.
I touched infinity today,
And felt the better for it.
